Brine Leas School Nantwich (1992)

A driving instructor in Crewe

How did I become so interested in driver training?

I left school in 1992 (Brine Leas School, Nantwich) and within a short period of time afterwards a lot of the people that I'd been at school with had been killed in car crashes.

The photo on the right show my year on our final day at high school. I'm on there too! But there's 13 teenagers on that photo who aren't with us today purely as a result of bad driving. They weren't necessarily the driver and sometimes it wasn't their fault. But it still made me very nervous about being a 'new' driver.

One morning walking through Crewe Town Square I noticed that the local group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists had a display and following that I became an advanced driver at the age of 19!

Eventually I found myself observing people through the IAM test and found I really enjoyed helping people to develop their driving skills. In 2000 I became an advanced driver with the Royal Society of Prevention of Accidents but it wasn't until 2002 that I took the decision to qualify as a DSA Approved Driving Instructor

A few years on and I'm still very passionate about driver training and 'younger' motorists. I can remember really enjoying learning to drive and now I'm the instructor I try and make the whole process as enjoyable as possible.

Driving lessons to suit you

So since becoming a driving instructor in Crewe in 2002, I'm registered with the Pass Plus scheme and also a registered instructor with the Institute of Advanced Motorists. I have also worked in industry so I now how important it is to have flexible times so whether you want a driving lessons in Nantwich in the evening or a driving instructor in Crewe in a morning or driving lessons in Sandbach at the weekend I'll be able to arrange a time that suitable for you.

Other driver training work

I am contracted to Cheshire Police to deliver on-road training for their Driver Offender courses. These are an educational alternative to prosecution for driving without due care and attention and section 3 offences.

I have been involved with Young Driver and their driving lessons for under 17s. This is obviously carried out off road on specially designed roadways and gives teenagers the opportunity to drive before they can legally drive on road.

I have gained a contract to deliver driver training to the 10,000 volunteer drivers for the 2012 London Olympics.

In December 2011 I completed the City and Guilds Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) Level 4 adult teaching qualification. This is a requirement for working with Cheshire Police but has given me an insight into modern teaching techniques and problems caused by learning difficulties and how to overcome them.
